How Class Unlocks Work

Your starting class is just the beginning: more weapons, combat styles, and powerful skills open up as you explore. Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class unlocks matter because acquiring a vocation and unlocking its expansion abilities are separate steps. This guide to Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class unlocks covers the 10 vocations, nine Obelisks of Benediction, and upgrades that give your chosen build more options.

The game calls its classes vocations. Four are available during character creation, two advanced vocations unlock through a Vernworth quest, and four additional vocations require meeting specific characters or completing their quests.

Dark Arisen adds another progression layer through Norgan’s obelisks. These provide new skills for existing vocations, along with permanent stat enhancements and temporary spoils boosts.

Progression layerWhat you doWhat you gain
Vocation unlockComplete the required quest or character interactionAccess to a combat class
Obelisk skill purchaseVisit the corresponding obelisk and spend DisciplineA new weapon skill
Obelisk activationOffer an Offering FlameAccess to upgraded skills, stat enhancements, and spoils boosts

Unlock your desired vocation before planning its skill upgrades. Finding an obelisk serves a different purpose from meeting the character who teaches you a class.

Starting Vocations, Warrior, and Sorcerer

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class unlocks begin with your character-creation choices: Fighter, Archer, Thief, and Mage. Visit a Vocation Guild to acquire another starting vocation with Discipline Points, usually abbreviated as DCP. Once acquired, subsequent switches are free.

For Warrior and Sorcerer, visit the Vernworth Vocation Guild and begin Vocation Frustration. The quest sends you after a greatsword and an archistaff, both found in Trevo Mine. Bring the weapons back to unlock the corresponding vocations.

Combine that trip with other objectives taking you into the mine. You can collect the required weapons while progressing through the same area instead of making a separate journey.

Mystic Spearhand and Trickster

For Mystic Spearhand, return to Melve as the story progresses and participate in the dragon encounter associated with Readvent of Calamity. Find Sigurd afterward and ask about his manner of fighting.

If you miss that encounter, Sigurd also provides an unlock opportunity at Dragonsbreath Tower. After learning the vocation, acquire it at a guild for 200 DCP.

Trickster comes from Luz at the Reverent Shrine in Battahl. Speak with her and pay the 50 Gold fee, then acquire the vocation for 200 DCP at a guild. You can visit her directly without waiting for Flickering Shadows to send you there.

Magick Archer and Warfarer

Magick Archer requires Put a Spring in Thy Step. Help Gautstafr by supplying three wildflowers, then escort him to the hot springs at the Volcanic Island Camp. Cliodhna teaches you the vocation after you help her husband.

While you are at the camp, visit Lamond to work toward Warfarer. Give him three bottles of Newt Liqueur for The Sotted Sage. Speak with him again afterward to receive Grandmaster’s Path, the teaching associated with Warfarer.

Pair these objectives into one Volcanic Island trip. Both unlocks bring you to the same general destination.

Where to Find the Nine Vocation Obelisks

Once you reach Norgan, Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class unlocks expand into skill hunting. There are nine vocation obelisks, covering every vocation except Warfarer.

Start around the settlement before pushing into the snowfields. Several nearby obelisks are straightforward to reach, while Warrior and Trickster require more attention to the approach.

VocationObelisk location or landmarkAccess detail
MageHill near the starting settlementFollow the southern road; use the tether post or Levitate
FighterCliff near the water north of the settlementFollow the paths around the back of the cliff
ThiefNear River Cave CampgroundCross the watery approach and climb the rocky, icy rise
ArcherCliff overlooking an outpost, south of the Thief obeliskFollow the southern road and connect to the western route
SorcererNorthwest of the starting settlementUse the tether shortcut or follow the longer road around
WarriorInside Mad Lord’s ChapelReach the cave and prepare for its skeleton miniboss
Mystic SpearhandRuined outpost in the eastern snowfieldsFollow the main road, then climb the smaller uphill path
Magick ArcherEastern snowfieldsLoop around the terrain to the recessed shrine
TricksterCliff east of central NorganApproach through the frozen-lake route and use a tether post when needed

For early access to the eastern snowfields, use Frozen Ravine Hollow near the campground portcrystal. Break through the entrance boulder, turn right inside, and follow the ascending passage through additional breakable barriers. This reaches the eastern area before the mountain route opens through the main quest.

Carry climbing hooks for tether posts. Mage and Sorcerer’s Levitate can bypass some gaps and simplify several approaches, so consider temporarily switching for the exploration trip.

In the snowfields, watch for ice that breaks beneath you. Around Trickster’s approach, weather also affects the available icy foothold; use the tether post when that foothold is absent.

Whiteouts obscure the minimap, but the main map remains readable. Lock minimap rotation, check your position frequently, and follow the visible ground path. Place a spare portcrystal near an obelisk you expect to revisit for spoils boosts.

Offering Flames, New Skills, and Permanent Stats

The next step in Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class unlocks is deciding where to spend your Offering Flames.

You can purchase an obelisk’s initial skill without activating it. An Offering Flame, earned by completing a Lost Wright dungeon, melts the ice and opens the additional options. The upgraded skill costs 5,000 DCP.

Use your first flames on your Arisen’s vocation and your main pawn’s vocation. That gives both characters access to their relevant upgrades while opening the corresponding spoils boosts.

Several skill upgrades directly improve familiar combat roles:

VocationInitial skillUpgraded skillCombat function
FighterWhirlwind StrikeHurricane StrikeAdvancing spinning attacks that can knock enemies off balance
ArcherFalcon ArrowKite ArrowKick away from an enemy and fire; off-balance targets trigger a stronger downward shot
MageVirtuous BoltExalted BoltAdds magical projectiles to core attacks
ThiefFanged SizzleFanged RiftA hop or backflip followed by an explosive attack
WarriorIron CleaveSteel CleaveRush forward with the weapon dragging, then finish with an uppercut
SorcererBrontideHigh BrontideA lightning whip usable between other spell casts

Mystic Spearhand gains a skill that sends a projection forward while the Arisen retreats. Magick Archer gains a charged slowing attack. Trickster receives two initial abilities: one heals its simulacrum, while the other redirects possessed enemies toward party pawns.

The permanent enhancements provide another reason to visit beyond your current class:

  • Mage and Fighter: Magick Defense and Defense, respectively.
  • Thief and Sorcerer: Strength and Magick.
  • Archer and Warrior: Stamina and Health.
  • Mystic Spearhand: Strength and Defense.
  • Magick Archer: Magick and Magick Defense.
  • Trickster: Health and Stamina.

These enhancements benefit your Arisen and main pawn. After upgrading their current vocations, consider Archer’s Stamina enhancement or Trickster’s combined Health and Stamina increase.

You can equip a purchased skill directly at the obelisk. Try it before returning to town, then decide which existing ability it should replace.

Plan Your Upgrades, Relic Farming, and Endgame Skills

For Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class unlocks, separate your immediate combat upgrades from your longer-term equipment hunt. Obelisk skills, relic enhancements, and endgame Maister abilities have different requirements.

Match Spoils Boosts to Your Farming Plans

An activated obelisk offers a vocation-specific spoils boost for 7,000 DCP. Its normal duration is one in-game day, and it increases the frequency of equipment associated with that vocation.

Activate it before a dedicated relic run. That spending has a clearer purpose when you are actively hunting weapons for the corresponding class.

The settlement merchant offers an item costing 30 duckets that extends these boosts to five days. Plan around the longer duration if you regularly leave the settlement for extended farming trips.

Relic equipment can also enhance obelisk skills beyond their purchased upgrades. For example, Warrior’s Titanic Cleave adds further hits to the finishing attack. That enhancement comes through equipment rather than another Offering Flame purchase.

Prepare for Stronger Areas

Early access to the eastern snowfields brings access to level-three relics, but also tougher enemies. Obtain some level-two equipment before committing to repeated farming there.

After unlocking Frecky as an exploration companion, feed her meat to locate relic chests. Take her into the snowfields when hunting equipment from that area, and place a portcrystal nearby to shorten appraisal trips.

Keep these priorities in order:

  1. Unlock the vocation you want to play.
  2. Purchase its initial obelisk skill.
  3. Activate your Arisen’s and main pawn’s obelisks.
  4. Buy their upgraded skills and stat enhancements.
  5. Use spoils boosts during focused equipment farming.

Endgame Skill Spoilers

The following unlock method involves Dark Arisen’s post-credits content.

After the credits, follow the quest that opens Ruined Knight. During that state, return to a vocation’s obelisk, speak with the spectral challenger beside it, accept the challenge, and win the fight to unlock its new Maister skill.

These abilities include Fighter’s Shield Precision, Archer’s Cloud Burst Shot, Mage’s Benediction, and Sorcerer’s Chilling Embrace.

Benediction grants a party-wide automatic revival effect, but casting it consumes loss-gauge health. Chilling Embrace creates a moving freezing effect followed by an ice explosion.

Warfarer can use the new ordinary vocation skills with the appropriate weapons, but cannot use other vocations’ Maister skills. Focus its upgrade hunt on the abilities that fit your planned weapon combinations.
