How to Unlock New Vocation Skills
Your next trip through Norgan can start with a lightning whip, a charging uppercut, or a shadow twin fighting beside you. Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class skills expand your combat options through early obelisk purchases and powerful endgame Maister abilities. Unlocking Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class skills early gives you more time to build combos around them instead of discovering your vocation's new move near the campaign's finish.
The expansion adds 19 new skills: 10 regular weapon skills and nine Maister skills. Nine vocations receive their own Obelisks of Benediction. Trickster gets two regular skills, while Warfarer draws from other vocations rather than receiving a dedicated obelisk.
Skill purchases, upgrades, and relic enhancements are separate parts of progression:
| Unlock stage | What you need | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| Regular weapon skill | Visit the corresponding obelisk and spend DCP | The vocation's new basic skill |
| Improved weapon skill | Give the obelisk an Offering Flame, then purchase the upgrade | The improved skill; upgrades cost 5,000 DCP |
| Relic enhancement | Equip a relic weapon carrying the relevant skill effect | Additional improvements tied to that weapon |
| Maister skill | Complete the expansion campaign, access its endgame, and defeat the corresponding spirit at its obelisk | The vocation's new ultimate ability |
You do not need an Offering Flame to purchase the basic obelisk skill. Flames come from completing Lost Rites dungeons. Offering one melts the obelisk's ice and opens its additional purchases, including permanent stat enhancements and a day-long vocation spoils buff.
Spend your first flames on your Arisen's vocation and your main pawn's vocation. That puts the upgraded skills and targeted spoils bonuses toward characters whose equipment and abilities you control.

Where to Find the Nine Obelisks
Finding the right cliff entrance is often harder than spotting the shrine itself. Several obelisks sit above roads or across icy terrain, and walking straight toward their glow can lead into a ravine.

Use these landmarks to plan your Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class skills route:
| Vocation | Obelisk location and approach | Permanent stat enhancement |
|---|---|---|
| Mage | Near the starting settlement; take the southern road and climb the ledge using its tether post | Magick defense |
| Fighter | Near the settlement's northern route; follow the water and circle behind the cliff | Defense |
| Thief | Near River Cave Campground; follow the water and climb the rocky, icy rise | Strength |
| Archer | South of the Thief obelisk, on a cliff overlooking an outpost; connect with the western road | Stamina |
| Sorcerer | Northwest of the starting settlement; use the tether shortcut or follow the longer road around | Magick |
| Warrior | Inside Mad Lord's Chapel, near the Shrine of Wisdom | Health |
| Magick Archer | In the eastern snowfields, tucked into a rocky recess | Magick and magick defense |
| Mystic Spearhand | On a ruined outpost in the snowfields, southeast of the Magick Archer obelisk | Strength and defense |
| Trickster | On an eastern cliff; approach through the frozen lake route and climb using the tether post | Health and stamina |
These permanent enhancements benefit both your Arisen and main pawn. Collect the remaining stat purchases as you obtain more Offering Flames, even when their associated skills are outside your current build.
Reach the Snowfields Early
Frozen Ravine Hollow provides an alternate route into the snowfields before the mountain path opens through the story. From the nearby campground portcrystal, head south beneath the icy spikes, drop toward the cave entrance, and break the obstructing boulder. Turn right inside and continue through the passage, breaking further boulders along the way.
Bring climbing hooks for tether posts. Mage and Sorcerer can use Levitate to bypass some gaps, but hooks remain useful when traveling as another vocation.
Watch for fragile ice in the snowfields. During whiteouts, check the full map frequently and lock the minimap's orientation so north stays consistent. For Warrior's obelisk, prepare to fight the skeleton miniboss guarding Mad Lord's Chapel.
Fighter, Archer, Thief, and Warrior Skills
The physical Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class skills add advancing attacks, knockdown follow-ups, and new ways to manage incoming damage. Mage also fits into this group of pawn-compatible vocations, with a regular skill that improves basic spell attacks.

| Vocation | Regular skill and upgrade | New Maister skill |
|---|---|---|
| Fighter | Whirlwind Strike → Hurricane Strike: advancing spinning slashes with a powerful follow-up | Shield Precision: automatic perfect parries while active, with continuous stamina consumption |
| Archer | Falcon Arrow → Kite Arrow: kick away from a target and shoot; downed or off-balance targets trigger a stronger overhead attack | Cloudburst Shot: rain arrows over a targeted circular area |
| Mage | Virtuous Bolt → Exalted Bolt: summoned spirits add shots to magickal burst core attacks; the upgrade extends duration | Benediction: grant the party an automatic revival blessing at the caster's maximum-health expense |
| Thief | Fang Schism → Fanged Rift: an upward attack with grounded or aerial variations and an explosive follow-up | Combustive Caper: draw an explosive trail while running |
| Warrior | Iron Cleave → Steel Cleave: charge with the blade scraping the ground, then deliver an uppercut | Blood Pact: empower attack timing and charging while draining the loss gauge |
Fighter and Archer: Exploit Off-Balance Enemies
Whirlwind Strike combines forward movement with attacks around the Fighter. Its follow-up adds substantial knockdown power, helping convert pressure into an opening for your party.
Use Shield Precision when you want its automatic defensive response, and watch the stamina bar while it remains active. The skill consumes stamina continuously and spends additional stamina when defending.
For Archer, Falcon Arrow changes its attack according to the target's condition. Against an upright enemy, it creates distance while firing. Against a downed or off-balance enemy, it launches you above the target for a stronger shot.
Save that overhead variation for knockdown windows. Cloudburst Shot covers a different need: attacking groups inside a chosen area. Keep the bow drawn to fire successive volleys.
Thief and Warrior: Commit to the Opening
Fang Schism offers a choice between staying grounded and rising with the attack. Follow the launch with its explosion to extend the sequence against smaller enemies.
Combustive Caper requires more space and time. You run with your blade against the ground, leaving a trail that detonates when the action ends. Use it against groups or during a boss's stunned window rather than chasing a moving target.
Iron Cleave carries Warrior forward while reducing incoming damage, then finishes with an upward slash. Its relic enhancement, Titanic Cleave, adds hits to the finishing attack.
Blood Pact builds toward an empowered state that removes timing requirements from supported attacks and greatly shortens charge times. Keep Allheal Elixirs available for its loss-gauge drain. Using Arc of Might ends the enhanced state, so reserve that interaction for a deliberate finishing attack.
Mage, Sorcerer, and Arisen-Exclusive Skills
The magical Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class skills combine direct damage with slows, party enchantments, and battlefield control. Their value comes from pairing effects with the rest of your loadout.

| Vocation | Regular obelisk skill | Upgrade or relic interaction | New Maister skill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sorcerer | Brontide: summon a lightning whip that remains available between spell casts | High Brontide improves damage and stamina efficiency; Grand Brontide builds attack speed through successive hits | Chilling Embrace |
| Mystic Spearhand | Retreat while sending a shadow twin forward to attack | The upgraded twin remains active longer | Create a gravitational field that slows enemies and strengthens diving attacks |
| Magick Archer | Shadebind Bolt: slow a target and increase hostile status buildup | The upgraded skill extends the slow and reduces stamina cost; the relic enhancement applies the effect in an area | Harmonic Pentad |
| Trickster | Curing Cloud: spend health to heal your simulacrum at range | Vitalizing Vapor increases travel speed and range | Dream Giant's Pommel |
| Trickster | Diverting Fume: redirect enemy attention toward your pawns | Rousing Aroma adds pawn strength and simulacrum-health benefits | Shares the same Maister unlock |
Mage and Sorcerer: Keep Attacking Between Casts
Virtuous Bolt adds spirit shots when the affected caster uses magickal burst core skills. Exalted Bolt extends the buff's duration, while its relic enhancement adds more spirits and piercing shots.
Pair the buff with a Sorcerer's Augural Flare to supply repeated hits. In the updated combat system, Augural Flare cannot amplify itself, but rapid attacks still contribute to its buildup.
Benediction gives party members an automatic revival when they fall. The cost comes from the caster's maximum health through the loss gauge. Save it for encounters where a revival matters enough to justify that sacrifice.
Brontide gives Sorcerer a close-range interruption tool without preventing other spell casts. Swing the whip between spells to pressure nearby enemies.
Chilling Embrace creates a moving freezing aura and finishes with an ice explosion when ended. Account for enemy ice resistance before dedicating your ultimate slot to it.
Mystic Spearhand and Magick Archer: Build Around Control
Mystic Spearhand's shadow-twin skill combines backward movement with continued offense from its projection. Use the retreat to avoid an incoming attack while the twin maintains pressure.
Its new Maister skill creates a gravitational field that restricts smaller enemies, slows larger ones, and strengthens diving attacks. Cast it in midair for its faster activation and extended range, then follow with a diving skill.
Shadebind Bolt supports status-focused Magick Archer setups by slowing the target and increasing status buildup. Pair it with frost attacks to work toward freezing an enemy.
Harmonic Pentad applies holy enchantments through bolts aimed at allies. Concentrating multiple bolts on one recipient also creates damaging effects, giving the skill both support and offensive applications.
Trickster: Protect the Simulacrum
Curing Cloud restores your simulacrum's health at the expense of your own current health. Its relic enhancement additionally prevents simulacrum health loss for a short duration.
Use Diverting Fume to shift enemy attention away from the illusion, and keep your pawns prepared to receive that pressure.
Dream Giant's Pommel summons enormous limbs that strike enemies and inflict knockdown. Charging it further adds attacks, giving Trickster another way to interrupt groups while the party fights.
Plan Your Six-Skill Loadout and Relic Upgrades
The expanded combat system lets the Arisen and pawns equip six weapon skills instead of four. That creates room for situational abilities alongside your established damage and defensive tools.
Build your Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen class skills loadout around interactions:
- Pair Archer's Falcon Arrow with party attacks that create knockdowns.
- Combine Magick Archer's slowing effect with status-building attacks.
- Give a ranged Arisen a Fighter or Warrior pawn to occupy enemies during casts and charges.
- Keep a Mage's support spells suited to the encounter rather than filling every slot with damage.
- Match relic skill effects to abilities you actually equip.
Relics have four bonus-effect slots. Weapon effects can enhance specific skills, adding benefits such as extra attacks, wider effects, or improved stamina efficiency.
Place a spare portcrystal near your frequently visited obelisk to shorten return trips for the day-long spoils buff. Warfarer can combine regular skills from other vocations, but cannot use their Maister skills.
